Hey everyone, I am Jeff Litchford, vice president at Idol Minds and I’m here to help us announce our brand new title LINKED TOGETHER for iPhone and iPad.  We would love to hear your questions and comments and will do our best to answer everything.

Here’s a little bit about us…

Linked Together is Idol Mind’s first mobile game.  Prior to this, we have spent the last 15 years making console games.  We started on the PlayStation 1 with the CoolBoarders snowboarding franchise and most recently we worked on PAIN, Warrior’s Lair, and the Ratchet & Clank Collection for the PlayStation 3.  We love console games, but the market is shifting and we realized we need to shift with it.

We’re really excited about the possibilities that mobile gaming represents.  We had been trained that a big hit was 2 million units.  A mega hit was 10 million.  It never occurred to us that individual games could be played by 50+ million people (Temple Run).  And in the end, that’s why we do this.  We love making games.  We’re passionate about them, debate their merits endlessly, hum their theme songs in the break room, and we love that other gamers get to play our creations and enjoy them as much as we do.  We would much rather make a game that touches a giant market, even if those gamers are less hardcore than we’re used to.

Linked Together started life as a bigger project, but while we waited and waited for that project to find funding we decided to just take the fun linking portion of the game and release it on its own.  We are big fans of the match-3 genre and have probably played nearly all of the variations out there.  We wanted to come up with our own take, so we decided to introduce the linking or chaining of the gems together.

We’ve also been greatly influenced over the decades by turn-based games, and the mobile format is a natural fit for that type of gaming.  We added the ability to influence your opponent by attacking them with bombs, fire and ice and Battle mode was born.  We’ve really enjoyed coming up with several simple mechanics and then finding all the neat ways that they can be mixed and matched together to frustrate our friends.

Here are a few hints to help you maximize your score.

1.       The biggest point bonus you can earn comes from getting ALL of your scores above 100pt thresholds.  So, try to get everything over 100, 200 or 300 if possible.

2.       You start the game with three multipliers that you can drag out and drop over normal gems.  Make sure you use them and do notice that they go up in value over time… try to wait to use them until they are x8.

3.       When choosing powers at the start of a game, you can select the same power twice – so if you like the free power of the day, double down on it.

Well, that’s enough for now.  Thank you for downloading the game or visiting our website.  We’ve had a great time creating the game and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

p.s. my username is Bunny Puncher so feel free to challenge me to a Battle game (Username Find on the select opponent screen).  I’ll see if we can set up a running score on the site so we can see how well I do.
